The mind of former footballer Paul Gascoigne has been caught in the offside position, say touchline media officials.

BBC News flagged the England star's mental well-being, after it strayed beyond the last line of sanity this week.

"The mind of Paul Gascoigne was unable to beat society's offside trap, and it was left floundering in no man's land", said BBC Sport.

"We were going to give him the benefit of the doubt, but there was clear daylight between Gascoigne and his mind, so the decision was made".

Gascoigne, who was one of England's most promising players in the early 90's, has seen his mind fall from grace in recent weeks, despite admirable support play from boxer Mike Tyson.

But while others have been quick to defend Gascoigne's mind, Gascoigne himself said his mind was "too eager to steal that extra half a yard".

"I don't know what happened", said Gascoigne.

"One minute I was clean through, with virtually an open life in front of me, only for my mind to be flagged offside at the last minute. What a fucking waste".
