
The move follows the unveiling of the official Olympic logo in the summer which attracted derision around the world and which appeared to resemble cartoon character Lisa Simpson giving fellatio.
However Olympic minister Lord Coe has denied that the rebranding represents a u-turn on presentation policy. "We just think that 'London 2012' doesn't have a good ring to it. London deserves the very best Olympic spectacular and this must be reflected in the appeal of the official name. 'London 2015' is catchy and edgy and will appeal to the young" said Lord Coe "but we may go the whole way and call it 'London 2022' just to be really special".
In an unrelated development, constructors working on the Olympic site in East London have revised their original construction estimate.
